Job Description

This is a newly created Legal Counsel position at a leading oil & gas player, reporting directly to the CEO. The role offers high visibility within the organization and the opportunity to make a significant impact by providing expert legal guidance across various facets of the business. The successful candidate will be a trusted advisor on corporate commercial, governance, regulatory, and compliance matters.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal counsel on a broad range of corporate commercial issues, including contract review, negotiation, and management.
  • Advise on corporate governance matters, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and internal policies.
  • Manage regulatory and compliance matters, ensuring adherence to industry-specific requirements.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, including executive leadership, to support business strategies and initiatives.
  • Identify and mitigate legal risks, working proactively to address potential issues.
  • Oversee external counsel when necessary.
Key Requirements:
  • Minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience (PQE), with a strong background in corporate commercial law.
  • Prior experience in the oil & gas sector is essential, with a particular focus on downstream operations highly regarded.
  • Proven track record in providing regulatory and compliance advice in a complex business environment.
  • Strong understanding of corporate governance frameworks.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work closely with senior management and external stakeholders.
